What causes cervical cancer and what to do to prevent it?

I read the leaflet regarding common causes. Even smoking can cause cervical cancer? It's unbelievable. It makes sense that sex with many different partners can cause this cancer. I think if a condom is used, then this cancer can be prevented. Right? What about masturbation? If I masturbate with my clean hands, I guess no cancer bacteria would enter my vagina. Am I right? I'd be grateful for some answers. Thanks.

Most of what you have said is incorrect I'm afraid. Please visit the Jo's Trust website to get accurate info. The HPV virus is transmitted by sexual contact and isn't stopped by condoms. Around 80% of people have HPV so even one partner is enough. There are 100 different strains, but only a few are high risk. The hpv can cause changes in the cells. The body normally fights these changes but not always. Sometimes the cells develop into cancerous ones very slowly. Regular smear test and the hpv jabs are the best way. Smoking can stop the body fighting the cells too, but sometimes you can do everything right but it just goes wrong anyway. Hope that helps! By: Flo Ant 2011-09-27 03:52:35

How can microwaves cause cancer if its wavelength is longer than that of light?

If normal light just bounces off of you and doesn't give you cancer, how can a wavelength that doesn't penetrate the skin give you cancer. I thought only shorter wavelengths like ultraviolet could give you cancer. If microwaves can give you cancer, than does normal light give you cancer?

Microwaves don't cause cancer. They ellicit rotations in water molecules (only if they have a high enough amplitude), which makes things hot, but yeah, no cancer. We use them in WiFi By: Geoff Erurarariuski 2011-04-06 14:13:41

How long does it take for cancer to run its course?

Assuming a person were diagnosed with an early form of cancer, how long does it take to run its course? Cervical cancer, for example. Could a person still live a relatively normal life for a while? How long would it take to kill a person if they could not afford or did not have access to treatment? I assume lung cancer would do you in faster, skin cancer slower. Are there any websites or books that discuss cancer in people who do not get treatment?

Assuming a person were diagnosed with an early form of cancer, it means they have already had it for years and lead a normal life. Cancer is a category of disease not a single disease and they all behave differently. There are plenty of books on the subject if you want to spend a few years studying it. There are people diagnosed with prostate cancer and some lymphomas who wait years before starting treatment and lead normal lives. People with prostate cancer who do not have surgery have a median survival of 2-6 months. So exactly what kind of cancer are you referring to? BTW melanoma is the most dangerous skin cancer, but it does not necessarily spread faster than any other cancer. It is not unusual to see it spread 30 years after diagnosis. I do not call that fast. How would a cancer sign dating a cancer signs relationship most likely be?

I'm a cancer and I have been dating a cancer for over a year now. She's my first love and I couldn't see myself with anyone else. Is this the same for any two cancers dating each other?

Two Cancers together would have a very good chance at a successful relationship - you'd understand the other's sensitivity and put up with each other's mood swings. Guess it depends on your rising signs too, you won't be exactly alike because I doubt you were born on the same day at the same minute. Enjoy your relationship, don't analyse it too much! Let you know what? What are you trying to ask? It would help if you used complete sentences. If you want to know if you have cancer – I doubt it. By: Denisedds 2010-06-09 16:47:18
